Welcome

Anyway, I didn't really mean to make this anything fancy, just felt like doing a bit of writing to accompany a picture.

Headache had already filed the medical records and shut down the computer, starting it back up would’ve taken more time than he currently wished to spend on it. He still had plenty of other things that required doing; there was never a dull moment around here.

Sighing, he rested his foot on the desk they had recently brought in, not paying much attention to the pens he had scattered in doing such. It wasn’t in his job description to bother with something so unimportant.

“Headache, what do you think you’re doing?” Snivek had come from the left, probably after making one of his rare trips to check on the patients. It was usually left to Headache. “Pick up the pens at least. Organization is a good thing in your line of work you know.”

“Not like you’d know of its benefits.” Headache grumbled in reply.

Snivek mostly dismissed it with a shake of his head. “Whatever. Just pick it up.”

“It’s not in my job description.” He narrowed his eyes and flicked his tail to the side.

Snivek let out a sigh of defeat. That was usually all he did. Being so laid back and all. Headache didn’t even see how he’d gotten this far as it was. It made no sense.

“Fine. Go get the Rinolex for Rhel in the fifth row to the left.”

One of their many patients that had been injured in combat.

  “Why can’t you?”

“Because.” Snivek’s gaze sharpened as he focused on the younger cat. “Someone is physically incapable of doing anything not listed in their directives.”

“So you’re gonna lounge around and pick up pens while making me work?” Headache crossed his arms and pointed his nose skyward. “I don’t find that very fair. It’s your job description to teach me.”

“You’ve been here for quite some time; I’d hope you can manage on your own.”

Headache refused to move for a moment before rolling his eyes and proceeding. There was really no point arguing with the other anyway. It wouldn’t change the ultimate result, and besides, getting someone medicine was easier than a lot of the other tasks he had to help with. Right…what medicine was it he was supposed to get? Cetnis, …… Enifel? Hmm…he supposed he could look it up on the computer, but that would require going back by Snivek and probably being submitted to another lecture on how he wasn’t focusing.

So he decided to take his best guess at remembering what he was told and proceeded along down the makeshift hospital room. It was really just a big semi permanent tent-like thing. It had a few rooms they’d sectioned off to some extent to provide private quarters and a type of operation center but the majority of their patients were out in the main area. He counted the rows, the patient’s name coming much more easily than the medicine he was instructed to give him had.

Headache glanced at him for a moment. He looked to be asleep or something to that effect which didn’t propose a problem of course. He could wake him up just fine.

“Hey, you get to sleep all day. You need to wake up so I can give you stuff.” His not particularly quiet voice did indeed catch his attention, along with a couple of the others unfortunate enough to be  nearby.

Headache wasn’t sure what they expected anyway, this wasn’t a luxury hospital. He set about unscrewing the cap, but not before Snivek had arrived in quite a deal of haste.

“Headache.” He called as he approached.

The younger cat’s ears flattened as he sighed irritably. “What now?”

“Have you given him the Rinolex yet?”

  “Um…not quite yet.”

“But you did get it, didn’t you?”

“Of course.” Headache’s ears twitched again. He was perfectly capable of handling this on his own.

“Ah, I see.” Snivek didn’t look particularly convinced though. “It’s just strange, because I found the bottle back there. Mind of I check?”

He couldn’t say no. Reluctantly he pulled it out from behind his back and handed it over. Much as he’d suspected, Snivek was able to tell right away that the names didn’t match up. He didn’t say anything immediately but handed it back with a shake of his head.

Snivek proceeded to take over the task he’d assigned to Headache before looking back at him with a slight scowl.   “Do you know how dangerous that can be?”

“It was just a painkiller.” Headache shrugged. “Nothing to worry about.”

“That isn’t the point.” Snivek’s tail swished to the side, “You’re dealing with others’ lives here, Headache. “

Another lecture. He rolled his eyes as he stared off to the side. “Uh huh.” Of course he knew it was wrong and that he shouldn’t have done that. But he had. Did Snivek really think telling him otherwise would change anything?

“Are you even listening to me?”

“Sort of. But you’re not really saying anything worth giving much thought to at the moment.”

“Is that so? So the safety of those you care for—your JOB—Is not important?”

Headache shrugged.

The response he got to it was far from what he had expected. Snivek had grabbed a hold of the sleeve of his arm with a rather tight grasp. Headache frowned as Snivek began leading him away, without much consent on his part.

  “What are you doing?”

“You’ve got a serious attitude issue.” He answered simply, “And I’m not about to let you jeopardize the well being of our patients just because of it.”

Headache tugged another time but the other was easily overpowering him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

  “Correction.”

“What kind of correction?” Headache huffed.

They had reached the small room divided by a flap of material from the others. The one they used as their surgery room. Snivek let go of his arm at last as he walked the small distance to the other side.

“A physical kind. Something you can remember for awhile. Particularly delivered to the rear.”

Headache scowled, opening his mouth to ask another question but Snivek started up again before he could manage anything.

“A spanking, Headache. Surely you’ve heard of that somewhere in your apparently well educated life.”

Headache’s expression changed entirely. His ears and tail drooped alike. “But --!”

The older medic said nothing as he watched the pure shock of the younger cat, beckoning him to come over with one finger.

Headache swallowed and took a step back. “But…but they’ll be able to hear you.”

“I presume that’s more a personal concern of your own than one that effects me directly.” His ears twitched. “Because granted I think most of them would agree you deserve it.”

  “Snivek....”

The older medic wasted no further time, once again retrieving the younger by his wrist and dragging him over to where he had been standing before.

“This isn’t in either of our job descriptions!” Headache attempted reasoning yet again.

Snivek nodded. “Sometimes it is necessary to go above and beyond what we are required to do.”
